To be honest it pains us a bit to write this review and share this special place as we’d prefer to keep Hotel Le Mirage and the surrounding towns of Le Lavandou and Bormes-les-Mimosas our family secret – a stone’s throw from St. Tropez but a world away from all its tourists.
Nestled atop a hill and surrounded by lush palm trees, the newly renovated Hotel Le Mirage offers an unbeatable view of the Mediterranean Sea. Imagine waking up, strolling out to the balcony with a cup of coffee in hand, and gazing at the vast expanse of serene blue sea and vineyard-covered hills. It’s the kind of view that compels you to sit, relax, and forget the rest of the world for a while.
The hotel boasts a fabulous pool on its expansive terrace, and trust me when I say, it was the real highlight for us. Baby J swam every day. The pool is modern and luxurious, situated next to a fabulous outdoor bar with delicious poolside cocktails. There’s plenty of space for guests and many of the chairs offer a view of the Mediterranean as well.
Le Mirage’s restaurant offers a simple menu of French and Italian cuisine, as well as a well-curated list of local wines. Trust us when we say local wines — we’re talking a 10-minute drive from the hotel. We had dinner here on our first night and particularly loved the shrimp pasta and asparagus risotto. We suggest starting your evening around sunset at the open-air bar for cocktails and an incredible view before moving inside for dinner.
The rooms at Le Mirage were bright, and comfortable, and had a delightful simplicity about them. With comfortable beds and modern bathrooms, the decor and amenities are really a step above your normal beachside hotel. Speaking of the beach, while the hotel sits on a hill in an exclusive neighborhood, dozens of beach clubs are just a short drive away and the hotel will gladly arrange a reservation for you at any one of them. We arrived early in the season when all the beach clubs weren’t open yet, but already have plans to go back and try them all!
In all, our stay at Le Mirage wasn’t just about staying at a hotel. It was about spending quality time as a family, delighting in delicious French food and wine, and immersing ourselves in the charming ambiance of the French Riviera.
