Kivotos Mykonos offers some of the most luxurious and unique accommodations on Mykonos. This family-owned property caters to travelers seeking a more upscale experience on this magical island known for its party scene.
The hotel’s secluded location on Ornos Bay makes it the perfect place to escape for some relaxation in the sun. Overlooking this emerald bay that’s dotted with mega-yachts and sailboats, we could spend days in their infinity pool with a cocktail watching the boats drift by, or on their private beach below. The expansive pool has a swim-up bar (get the recipe for their signature gin Drinkit cocktail in the Taste Edit Magazine), but if you’re looking for even more privacy, you can book a room with a private or semi-private plunge pool.
The rooms at Kivotos are unique and luxurious. The decor is a bit quirky but inspired by the owners’ obvious passion for art and luxury. The bathrooms feature Bulgari toiletries, and the interiors of the hotel mix modern decor with traditional Mykonian architecture and are dotted with art and objects like Murano glass, Fornasetti furnishings, and Baccarat crystal.
Should you desire to leave the premises, we suggest doing so on the hotel’s private boat, which can take you to various beaches around the island.
Once you return, be sure to book a magical dinner on the hotel’s private dock. The menu, developed in conjunction with French chef Alain Ducasse, was probably the best dining experience we had in Greece. The Kivotos team thoughtfully chose a Premier Cru Chablis to pair with our dinner, which included artichoke and porcini consomme, hamachi ceviche, a filet of sea bass with tiny calamari, and a creamy mascarpone mousse. As another example of the special touches at Kivotos, the team put on a private fireworks display during our dinner.
While Mykonos has a reputation for its wild parties, we found there is plenty to do if that is not your scene. Just steer clear of the major beach clubs, book accommodations at hotels college students can’t afford, and enjoy the sparkling waters and sandy beaches of this famous Mediterranean island.
