Fresh Seafood at the Local Market: Our Favorite Sunday Ritual

Indulge in the freshest fruit de mer alongside a babbling Alpine stream - shrimp, oysters, crab, and more

We love heading to the Sunday market at Divonne-les-Bains in France, just a 20-minute drive from our home in Switzerland to indulge in the freshest fruit de mer alongside a babbling Alpine stream. We recently took our friend Julia there for lunch. We thought 11:30am would be perfect but the weather was so nice out that everyone had the same idea. Most of the seafood had already been spoken for, but thankfully we were able to still get a fabulous platter, plus the last bottle of Champagne.

Set up by a local fishmonger, the stand offers an incredible selection of shellfish, including crab legs, shrimp, a variety of oysters, sea urchins, clams, and more. The best part? You can enjoy your seafood lunch while taking in the serene views of the stream and socializing in the park-like setting.

To accompany your lunch, our fish stand offers a range of beverages, from glasses of white Bordeaux to bottles of Champagne. Many people purchase a loaf of crusty bread from the bakery stand to complement their seafood treats. There’s also a huge cheese purveyor who we love with tons of local raw cheeses.
