One of the interesting things about Santa Baraba is that it’s where Julia Child chose to retire after her husband Paul passed away. In the process of researching for our trip, we found that she had mentioned that she enjoyed La Super-Rica Taqueria, so we of course had to go.
It’s located a few minutes east of Downtown Santa Barbara in a part of town known for it’s Mexican food. It’s a super cute little turquoise and white building, you can’t miss it. Make sure you bring cash. We made that mistake on our first attempt. Our second attempt was much better. We arrived at 11am when they opened so there was no line yet.
As you wait in line and make your decisions, you can watch the tortillas being made fresh right before your eyes. We ordered sopas, vegetable tamales, and rajas. Everything was delicious, but our favorite were the rajas.
The food is served on plastic and paper plates and there is an array of salsas you can choose from. It’s not fancy but it’s good. The rajas were served on top of the tortillas instead of inside like a taco but were delicious! At home, we like to use La Tortilla Factory tortillas, but after seeing them being made, we really want to learn how to make our own from scratch with one of these. Check out other stops from our trip here, here, and here.
