This hip wine bar and restaurant is the place to be at night in downtown Nice. It’s located on a little alleyway just off a noisy square, but feels like an escape from the crowds of Old Town Nice. Lavomatique has an extensive collection of natural wines that aren’t even on their list. So this is the palace to ask for something off-menu. They will give you great suggestions to try, and also offer pairings by the glass. The food is solid, using seasonal and local products that change daily.

We tried a mixture of cheese and charcuterie and followed that with the courgettes (zucchini) with pistachios and tarragon, and a beef main. Pretty much anything on the menu is going to be a winner here. If you’re wondering what that beautiful flowery thing is, it’s cheese, Tete de Moine. It’s delicious and gorgeous!

Be sure to reserve ahead. They don’t have a website, so you have to reserve via Facebook messenger or call. We sat outside and watched many people being turned away. If you see empty seats, don’t bother asking – they’re reserved. The restaurant does multiple seatings per night, so be sure to ask if there’s a time they need your table back. If so, you may want to make a later reservation.
