Most of the beach clubs in Saint-Tropez are only open for lunch in May and June, so it’s not easy to get dinner on the beach outside of peak season. On one of our recent trips, we arrived late because of unusually heavy traffic driving down to the French Riviera. After sitting in the car for so long, we were desperate for an easy seaside dinner. So, we decided to make a reservation for dinner at a local beach club on the far edge of town, a secluded escape just around the cape from the famed Pampelonne Beach.
Les Salins has a beach club and restaurant on the sand by day, but at night they transform into an Italian restaurant on a terrace above the water. Reservations are by phone only, so we called from the car and secured a table. We arrived earlier than expected, and our server seated us at a table by the water.
The menu focuses on Italian cuisine with lots of pasta and wood-fired pizzas. Our son loves calamari, so we started with that and a shaved artichoke salad. The artichoke salad was by far one of the best we’ve had, and our son loved it too! Then we ordered pasta and skipped the pizza. I definitely had FOMO when I saw others ordering pizza. They also offer takeaway pizzas but we fought the temptation as it was late and we will plan to do this for dinner another time.
The vibe is laid-back with many locals. The spaghetti vongole was stellar, or maybe I was just really hungry. The Les Salins house pasta, made with heavy Roquefort cheese, was interesting. It actually paired quite nicely with their house white wine from a local vineyard.
Definitely put this on your list when you go to Saint-Tropez.
