Rovello 18 is a cozy, traditional trattoria in the Brera district of Milan serving simple dishes along with the best wine list in Milan – over 800 wines. You’ll regularly find natural and classical wines from renowned Italian wine producers like Giacomo Conterno, Cascina Fontana, and Bartolo Mascarello. The restaurant was highly recommended by several locals in the wine and food industry and was our first stop in Milan (and probably will be going forward). In addition to its renowned status among culinary industry insiders, Rovello 18 earned Michelin plate status.
The photos on the website don’t do this trattoria justice. It’s a two story restaurant with dark wood beams, wine bottles lining the downstairs walls, charming wallpaper upstairs, and colorful Murano glass.
The ingredients are seasonal so you might find artichokes or puntarelle to start. For a primo, try their specialty of ragu made with bra sausage or if it’s in season – we highly recommend our favorite dish, the spaghetti chitarra con guanciale, puntarelle, e pecorino. It’s surprisingly light for a Northern Italian pasta dish.
For a secondo, we highly suggest picking something that pairs with one of the incredible Piemontese selections on Rovello 18 wine list — regardless of whether it’s in season. Pair a braised beef with an incredible Barolo on your first visit. Then on your next visit, just choose a good pasta, a good wine, enjoy it, and plan for your next reservation.
