Set on a long pier, you’ll be met by local fishermen selling the fish they caught that morning. At this market, you’ll find a variety of local fish and seafood that’s in season. We spotted spiny lobsters, whole tuna, and local oysters. Did you know San Diego used to be the Tuna capital of the world until it moved overseas?
You can purchase your fish and then bring it down to the end of the dock where they will clean and butcher it however you want. The market also has easy access for boats, so the fishermen can load their catch. Shoppers can also arrive by boat! While we were on the dock, a boat pulled up and we helped a woman onto the dock so she could get her fish for the weekend. What a life that would be!
If you are looking for lunch, when in season, you have to try the sea urchin. They use tuna from the tuna fishermen on the dock and make fresh poke.
