This Parisian bistro situated on a quiet street in the Rive Gauche of Paris has been serving traditional bistro fare since 1970, delighting customers with its menu of classic French dishes in a traditional, rustic setting.
On our most recent visit, after consulting the chalkboard menu, we started off with an appetizer of roasted bone marrow with fresh herbs — a rich and savory entree for what was to come.

Next on the menu was a Chez Fernand’s classic green bean salad. This iconic French dish had just the right combination of sweet, salty, and crunchy, making it a wonderful balance to the heavier taste of the bone marrow.
For our main courses, we opted for scallop risotto and a veal chop served with mashed potatoes. The creamy texture of the risotto and freshness of the seafood resulted in a truly memorable dish we’d like to recreate at home. We’ve actually been researching in our collection of old French cookbooks to attempt it. The veal chop was simply French comfort food at its finest.
Overall, Chez Fernand is an excellent Parisian bistro that should not be missed when visiting Paris, especially if you’re looking for a restaurant with a warm, rustic vibe. Not only does it offer traditional Parisian fare in a cozy atmosphere, but the food is delicious and the wine list offers some great options at a reasonable price point.
