The iconic Hotel du Palais in Biarritz, France, perfectly combines history, elegance, and outstanding service. This extraordinary seaside property provides an ideal setting for a family getaway while also immersing guests in an atmosphere of luxury and refinement.
Located directly on the beach of Biarritz, the Hotel du Palais has a rich history dating back to Napoleon III. The Emperor commissioned this luxurious hotel in 1854 for his wife, Empress Eugénie. Over the years, it has hosted numerous notable guests including Coco Chanel, Frank Sinatra, and numerous members of the British royal family.
The charming town of Biarritz has grown around the Hotel du Palais, offering high-end shopping and excellent restaurants just outside the property. However, the park-like setting offers hotel guests privacy and seclusion to enjoy the grounds and the hotel’s beautiful outdoor pool.
During our stay, we were impressed by the exceptional service provided by the hotel staff. The bar, once Napoleon’s office, is filled with history, and the Michelin-starred restaurant offers an outstanding culinary experience in a gorgeous atrium featuring panoramic views of the Atlantic.
A highlight of our visit was the Sunday brunch, featuring an extensive buffet of seafood and a Champagne pairing. This elegant meal was one of the most memorable parts of our stay (check back for more on this soon).
The weather in Biarritz can be unpredictable and Baby J enjoyed the hotel’s indoor swimming pool, which was opened by Frank Sinatra, multiple times throughout the chilly spring weekend. Set in the hotel’s Guerlain Spa, there are dedicated times for families with children to enjoy the pool.
Our suite was spacious, with multiple windows opening directly onto the ocean, allowing us to fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks and the fog horns from the lighthouse.
The Hotel du Palais’ attention to detail, excellent service, stunning location, and tasteful décor has made it one of our favorite hotels in the world. In our experience, it’s extremely rare for a hotel of this caliber to participate in a global network of hotels. As a member of Hyatt’s Unbound Collection of extraordinary hotels, guests can use Hyatt rewards to book a stay at this stunning seaside escape.
We can’t wait to return to this remarkable property, where history and luxury come together for a truly exceptional experience.
