We first heard of this restaurant years ago when our friend Kate wrote about it in her cave à manger article for us. However, no matter how many times we went to Paris, they always seemed to be booked. You have to call to make your reservation. They speak French and English, but this was one of my first reservations solely in French. They didn’t (how we like to say) “English” me and switch as soon as they heard an accent that wasn’t French. We snagged a lunch reservation and made sure to be there on time.

Juveniles is a family-run restaurant well known for its wine list, which was created by the couple who started the restaurant. Juveniles’ fabulous wine list is speckled with classical wines that are a bit more rare and natural wines, focusing on French wines. The husband, Tom, is from Scotland, so you’ll also find Neals Yard cheese on the menu. A nod to the UK.

The food is simple and seasonal with fresh ingredients. We ordered dishes of razor clams and the seasonal white asparagus topped with the perfect soft-boiled egg. We had to try the entrecote for two which came topped with herbs and butter lettuce salad, and a crock of the most velvety potatoes. Of course, they always offer a menu du jour which we’re sure would also be a good choice.
What to order: entrecôte for two and wine
