Masseria Calderisi is Puglia’s newest luxury hotel. Opened in 2021, it offers a more laid back alternative to Puglia’s established properties. We love the casual and exclusive feel of this boutique property. With just 24 rooms guests enjoy a more personal experience than the larger Puglian estates. It’s also a true working farm, with its own olive oil and a menagerie of animals including chickens, peacocks, donkeys, and rabbits.
The property offers a variety of guest rooms, our favorites being the stable suites which are bright and airy with seating areas, fireplaces, and private patios. The luxurious bathrooms feature Aesop toiletries and the decor is rustic yet chic, appointed with local ceramics and soothing tones.
Our favorite part of Masseria Calderisi is their beautiful pool, set amidst towering shady olive trees. The poolside service is friendly and attentive, and the house DJ creates a lively yet sophisticated vibe. If you like his mixes, you can actually purchase them on a USB drive so you can remind yourself of Puglian summer all year long at home.
The food at Masseria Calderisi is truly excellent. The restaurant offers two dinner menus – one fine dining and one more casual. Both were better than any of the local restaurants, and guests are free to mix and match courses from both menus. The poolside restaurant also offers a casual lunch service with pizzas and salads — the shaved zucchini salad being our favorite. The reason for the food being so excellent is the consistency in the kitchen. The masseria’s chef has a team from his village that he’s worked with for years, so everything runs smoothly.
Guests of Masseria Calderisi also have the Calderisi Beach club at their disposal, which was our favorite of all the beach clubs we tried in Puglia. The wood oven pizza at the beach club restaurant is excellent, and the masseria offers pizza classes for guests who are interested in learning to recreate it at home.
One last detail that we really appreciated was the shuttle service the masseria introduced near the end of our stay. There are very few taxis in Puglia and the few that exist are expensive, so Masseria Calderisi offers their car in the evenings to drop off and pick up guests in the nearby towns.
