One our must-see spots in LA was the brand new Waldorf Astoria bar in Beverly Hills (next door to the Beverly Hilton). We actually wanted to find a spot at their rooftop bar with panoramic views of LA, but it was packed, so we headed down to their swanky Jean-Georges Bar. It ended up being quite the experience.
We started out with two of their signature cocktails, a Cucumber Martini for him and a Lychee Raspberry Bellini for her. Both were great, and we had a great time just sitting and taking in the amazing interior design and chatting with a few interesting people we met.
It wasn’t long before one of the bartenders asked if we liked Scotch and handed us a glass. Of course we do—but he explained that someone had accidentally put a lime twist in it when the guest had asked for lemon. We both questioned who would do that to perfectly good McCallan 12 year, but drank it anyway. It wasn’t long before the same bartender came back with a second glass and said this time he had made a Penicillin cocktail with a $400 pour of very old Scotch (another questionable order), but the guest decided they didn’t want it anymore.
Having had more cocktails than we bargained for, we ordered a snack of crispy calamari with a light citrus chili dip, which was exceptional. We didn’t want to spoil our dinner, so we got our check and made our way back to our hotel, but we can’t wait to head back to this amazing hotel on our next trip to LA and enjoy dinner on the roof.
