A trip to the Ferry Building is a must when visiting San Francisco. We always tell friends and family to skip Fisherman’s Wharf and highly recommend the Ferry Building instead. If you are in town on Saturday morning, the Ferry Building hosts one of the best farmers markets in the Bay Area (get our recommendations and tips for it here).
The Ferry Building offers a wide variety of experiences. Go for lunch or dinner, or stop in for a Blue Bottle coffee, Humphrey Slocombe Secret Breakfast ice cream, or sipping chocolate from Dandelion Chocolate. You’ll be able to find lots of food focused gifts and treasures. You’ll find some of the best mushrooms available at Far West Fungi. Try the olive oil at McEvoy Ranch. For wine, visit the Ferry Building Wine Merchant. One of our favorite things that they carry are splits of pink Ferrari bubbles (see our visit to Ferrari here).

Stop into Fort Point Beer for a cold beer and stay for the hot dogs and pretzel. Try the bread at Acme Bread. They offer a unique selection that you won’t find anywhere else in town. Gott’s Roadside is perfect for burgers or fish tacos, and don’t miss Cowgirl Creamery for the raclette.
For a more formal sit down dinner or cocktails, we recommend The Slanted Door for Vietnamese food (get his cookbooks here) or Hog Island Oyster Co. for oysters, cocktails, or the best clam chowder in San Francisco.

are the mushrooms in the patio photo, “porchini’ mushrooms, or a local “King” mushroom?
Hi Anna, The giant mushrooms in the box are porcini from Far West Fungi. Was there a different photo that you were referring to?
Making our way slowly through your wonderfully precise recommendations! 😊
