Matthiasson Stands With Houston

Napa Valley Vineyard, The Taste Edit

Napa’s Matthiasson Winery is giving back to the Houston community through wine. You may recognize winemaker Steve Matthiasson from the movie SOMM; Into the Bottle or his recent James Beard nomination. Steve and his wife, Jill, are remembering the earthquake that Napa experienced three years ago, and giving back by donating all proceeds from their reserved 2014 Napa Valley White Wine to benefit the Houston Harvey Relief Fund. See the letter they released below.

Almost 3 years ago exactly, the Matthiasson family and the entire community of Napa experienced first-hand the damage mother nature can do with an earthquake. Over the last few days, almost 2000 miles away, the good people of southeast Texas are experiencing the damage she can do with a hurricane and torrential rains.

The images we have witnessed brought back the pain and trauma we experienced in Napa. Besides the many barrels of wine that were lost, our house shook off its foundation and the uncertainty of aftershocks kept us awake for nights on end.

We felt powerless and scared but determined to fight the good fight and move forward. We know the folks in Texas feel the same way. They are resilient. But they are also in need of support and supplies. The Matthiasson family is pitching in and we came up with a way for you to help as well. You may remember the Quake Cuvée that we released to benefit the Napa community…you may still have some in your cellar. We didn’t want to ever have to do it again, but for a second time we feel compelled to release a wine to help those affected by a natural disaster, this time Hurricane Harvey.

We had reserved 100 cases of our highly age-able 2014 Napa Valley White Wine for a future library release, but now have decided to offer all of them early, specifically for hurricane relief. 100% of all after-tax profits from this offering of 2014 Napa Valley White Wine will be donated to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, directly benefiting the good people impacted by the storm and flooding. It will feature a special bottle stamp acknowledging the resilience and fortitude of the people of Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

While it’s a small gesture of support, we all do what we can to help those in need. You can donate directly to the Red Cross or the Houston Food Bank. Or you can purchase our 2014 Napa Valley White Wine – and rest assured that 100% of all after-tax profit will be donated to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

Stay strong Texas, we love you.

The Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund is administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation, 5120 Woodway Drive, Suite 6000, Houston, TX 77056. 100% of after-tax profits from the sale of the wine will be donated. This contribution is not tax deductible.
