We spent a weekend at the Victoria-Jungfrau, Interlaken’s historic grand dame luxury hotel and spa. Centered in the heart of Interlaken, it’s just minutes from the majestic Lauterbrunnen Valley. The hotel features dramatic views of some of the highest peaks in the Alps.
Opened in 1865, the Victoria-Jungfrau was originally two separate hotels — Hotel Victoria and Hotel Jungfrau. Iconic yellow and white striped awnings mark its façade, which faces the Jungfrau. Be sure to book a room along the front of the hotel so you can wake up each morning to its snowy peak. The hotel is renovated and now has a majestic palm-lined glass lobby joining the two historic buildings.
If you enjoy the outdoors and luxury spa time, then this is the hotel for you. We are not into mountain sports and we don’t like heights, so the Victoria-Jungfrau was the perfect luxurious retreat to enjoy between walks in the valley exploring the waterfalls and making our way around the stunning Thunersee (Thun Lake). We recommend heading to the terrace at sunset to sip on cocktails. You can watch the last few paragliders of the day land on the lawn across from the hotel.
Interlaken has typical traditional restaurants serving rustic Alpine fare and international cuisine (Lebanese, Indian, etc.) The Victoria-Jungfrau has two Michelin rated restaurants. Sapori offers pizza and Italian specialties in a majestic setting, and La Terasse offers fine dining with ingredients sourced from local producers. Both restaurants are run by local chef Stephen Beer.
After enjoying the majestic outdoors, unwind and pamper yourself at the Victoria-Jungfrau’s expansive Nescens spa. This new addition to the hotel features a gorgeous tiled pool, two floors of spa space, an outdoor lounge, and a new category of spa suites that allow you to enjoy the spa throughout your entire stay.
