Clover Gordes has been on my list for a long time. We love Jean François Piège (see our visit to Clover Saint Germain here), and this is his destination restaurant in Provence at Airelles Gordes, La Bastide. We went for Mother’s Day lunch. The view was stunning. Now we understand why the TV show “Emily in Paris” used the restaurant as a filming location.
Lunch began with a seasonal strawberry spritz and an olive oil tasting. The server brought a basket of oils for us to try, along with a slice of pissaladière. The menu is small, which we love, and filled with seasonal and local ingredients. We shared a few small dishes like the crispy rice but especially enjoyed the calamari carbonara, his signature dish. Thin, delicate strips of squid replace pasta in a rich sauce, making it perfect for those who are gluten-free.
Next, we had the entrecôte for two with sauce béarnaise and potatoes. We finished with a soufflé and a coupe filled with strawberries marinated in rose, topped with frozen fromage blanc. Our experience at Clover Gordes was unforgettable, and we look forward to returning.
