When we visited Carmel-by-the-Sea, we asked everyone for recommendations on what to do and where to eat. Almost everyone said we had to go to the European-style bistro, La Bicyclette. It was on our must-do list and it didn’t disappoint. After wandering through the town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, with it’s adorable houses and flower boxes, we stopped in for lunch.
Everything about La Bicyclette is reminiscent of a rustic French bistro. There were copper pans hanging from the ceiling, tall wooden chairs, and a large wood-fired pizza oven set in the back. We ordered a salad of roasted beets radicchio, and mache, along with a pizza to share. We spotted a split of Ferarri’s pink bubbles, and it being one of our favorite sparkling wines, we decided to share one. (Check out our visit to this incredible winery here.)
All of the pizzas sounded delicious, but we decided to try the Champignons, made with portobello and oyster mushrooms, mozzarella, thyme, caramelized onion and truffle. It was the perfect way light afternoon lunch.
We loved the area that was hidden behind the pizza oven with the extra chairs, firewood, and long tables for larger groups of guests. It would be the perfect place to gather with friends, lots of charcuterie, pizza, and wine. That’s on our list for next time! Get our full weekend guide to Carmel here.
