We’ve had Le Tse Fung at La Réserve Geneva had been on our must-visit list for quite some time. It’s extremely difficult to find good Chinese food in Switzerland and we have spent most of our time in Switzerland making it at home, so we were eager to experience the country’s most highly regarded Chinese restaurant. Headed by Shenzhen native Frank Xu, this Michelin-starred Geneva institution did not disappoint.

We started with Le Tse Fung’s signature cocktails—one based on green Chartreuse, one of our favorite local specialties, and another with tequila and Italicus, a combination that turned out to be exceptionally elegant. The wine list is one of the most impressive we’ve seen in Geneva, featuring a strong and interesting Burgundy selection, including rare finds from Vincent Dancer, a personal favorite producer. We chose the Roc Breà from his son and winemaker Théo Dancer, a bottle that did not disappoint.

We started with the red rice rolls, a signature dish that was both crispy and delicate. Alongside, we had an assortment of dim sum, each meticulously crafted and their small, delicate shapes being truly impressive. The langoustine and foie gras dumplings were the standouts of this course—rich, nuanced, and perfectly balanced. They set a high bar for the rest of the meal.

From there, we moved on to the main courses. The Szechuan chicken had just the right amount of heat (also a rarity in this part of Europe) to make you notice, without overpowering the dish. The basil beef was both savory and fresh, served in a rich sauce with herbs that kept it from feeling too heavy.
The Peking duck arrived on a silver duck platter, served with all its proper accompaniments and pancakes so thin and delicate you could see through them. The skin was crisp, the meat tender, the sauce plentiful, and the balance of flavors exactly what you want from this Chinese classic. It was one of our son’s favorite dishes!

There are only a handful of restaurants serving proper Chinese food in Switzerland, and after this meal, we’d agree that Le Tse Fung is at the top. It’s the only Chinese restaurant with a Michelin star in Switzerland. It’s not just about the quality of ingredients or the precision of the execution—though both are evident—but the way everything comes together in a refined experience. A visit in the summer would be especially lovely so that you could enjoy the expansive covered terrace and exceptional cuisine.
