Burdigala by Inwood Hotels, located in downtown Bordeaux, recently completed a two-year transformation under architect Fabien Roque, turning the former 4-star property into a vibrant, five-star lifestyle destination with a dynamic atrium, coworking hub, private cinema, and game room. The lobby bar doubles as a local coworking spot buzzing with activity by day and blends into one of Bordeaux’s more polished cocktail bars by night.

We loved the location of this property in a more residential area but just a short walk from Bordeaux’s main shopping district. It gives you easy access to all of the sights in Bordeaux but with a little distance from the crowds.

We gravitated toward the bright, airy restaurant Madame B, helmed by Chef Grégory Vingadassalon, an Alain Ducasse alumnus. The chef champions weekly changing menus that spotlight local, seasonal produce in a modern, unfussy style—reflecting both nostalgia and creativity. Despite its hotel address, Madame B feels like a full-fledged neighborhood bistro—it was lively and packed with locals during our visit. As it was explained to us, the chef wanted to create a restaurant that happens to be in a hotel, not a “hotel restaurant.” He definitely accomplished this with his flavourful small dishes and interesting wine list.

Upstairs, the rooms are sleek and modern, featuring pleasant living areas, comfortable beds, and pristine bathrooms. Our suite even included a sitting area and access to book the cinema for a private viewing when available. For a city hotel our room was truly spacious, with plenty of room to lounge and an enormous bathroom with a separate jacuzzi tub and shower.
If you’re drawn to a boutique stay that feels like a friendly urban hub—with solid food, lively bars, coworking culture, and stylish design—Burdigala makes for a smart pick for a Bordeaux getaway.
