When we were planning our trip to New Orleans, one of the restaurants we were most excited to try was Cane & Table. Our friend Ceri, owner of Biondivino Wine Boutique, first recommended the restaurant and also their turmeric-infused cocktail. Unfortunately, when we visited they were out of turmeric so we did not get to try it, but we did get the recipe and plan to make (and share) it soon!
This “pan-Latin” restaurant is inspired by the history of rum trade, which means you’ll find amazing rum-based cocktails, Cuban and other Caribbean food, and French wines. We of course started out with cocktails. Our favorite was the “Tiki Enough,” a refreshing cross between a Tom Collins and Royal Hawaiian. The restaurant also has a daily punch special, which we did not try, but learned about when we inquired about the crystal punch bowl sitting on the bar.
The food is as good as the cocktails. We order several small plates to start – cucumbers marinated in coconut milk, sweet corn elotes, and (you have to try them) the Trubridge Farm crispy ribs with pepper jelly glaze. Our server recommended a fantastic small production French wine, which went well with our light dishes as well as our main course of Creekstone skirt steak ropa vieja served with tostones.
The restaurant is beautiful and there is a back patio as well. We can’t wait to go back. They also offer brunch, which we would definitely check out since the dinner is amazing. If the weather is nice, we would suggest sitting out on the patio. It was very hot during our visit, so we found the perfect inside next to the candlelit fireplace.
