Vol-au-vent is a French food that is a small pastry shell filled with sweet or savory fillings. We’ve made savory vol-au-vents before, so we decided to try a sweet dessert vol-au-vent when we had extra puff-pastry. You can substitute other fruit if you prefer.
Strawberry Vol-Au-Vent Dessert
1 Package of Puff-Pastry
Preheat oven at 350 degrees F or refer to your puff pastry instructions.
Start with making vol-au-vent shells. Cut four circles of the same size. Cut a smaller circle out of two of the four circles to make 2 donut shaped pieces (you’ll now have eight total pieces). Brush the larger circles with an egg wash. Top with the now doughnut shaped circles, making sure the edges are aligned. Brush the top of the donut shaped circles with egg wash. Follow the puff pastry instructions for baking time.
Once cooled, push down the center of the pastry to make room like a shell, and fill the shell with whipped cream and top with strawberries.
