Located in the brand new Hotel Le Grand Mazarin in Paris’ Marais, Boubalé is one of the most fun dining experiences we have had in a long time. Serving an elevated take on Ashkenazi Jewish comfort food from Michelin-starred chef Assaf Granit, Boubalé also offers an almost party-like atmosphere around an open kitchen, with an extremely friendly and welcoming service team.
The names of all the service staff are printed on the menu — a testament to the family-like vibe the restaurant conveys. And the food is what you would expect if your grandmother went to culinary school and ran a fine dining restaurant. The elevated takes on goulash, pickled herring, beets, and borscht are beautifully plated on vibrant tableware. There wasn’t one thing we tried that was not delicious but the slow cooked beef-stuffed pastas, braised goulash with gnocchi, and beets were some of the standout dishes to us. The challah bread is also out of this world.
The cuisine is paired with an interesting selection of wines mostly from central and Eastern Europe. We suggest that you entrust the selection to the sommelier and you won’t be disappointed.
They took special care of our young son, ordering him some polenta to start to make dinner even more enjoyable. They were super kind and our son ended up eating everything in the end. We finished with a warm apple strussle and chocolate mousse with salt and olive oil. A fantastic dinner that we all enjoyed.
Boubalé offers two dinner services. We suggest you book the second one and grab a drink or two in their fabulous bar before heading to your table.
