The Hidden Restaurant of Paris

If you’re looking for a glamorous local restaurant in Paris, this would be the place to go. The name means “hidden,” which the restaurant certainly is, and the menu is focused on vegetables, fish, and seafood.

I will start by telling you the service at Caché was pas wow, really bad in fact. We witnessed one particular server wandering around the room with dishes many times, never sure which table to bring them to. We ordered three appetizers, one of which arrived just before dessert (they ended up offering this as well as a few other items to make up for the many mistakes).

Despite the poor service (which it seems they are trying to improve), the ambiance, food, and flavors were so good! If you go into the experience with low expectations for service you’ll be fine. They are following the new trend of a two-hour time limit for tables, so we recommend booking a late table so you won’t feel rushed as there won’t be a table waiting to be seated.

We ordered the turbot as well as with sides of endive salad, asparagus with habanero, and lentil salad. The turbot is presented with radishes that are places like scales. Then the kitchen plates the fish so it’s easy to eat. It was just two of us but it would be great for a party of 3-4!

Finally, the desserts were light and tart. I hate a super sweet dessert. I tried thé rhubarb pavlova which was a perfect balance between sweet meringue, tart rhubarb, and chantilly cream. Plus it was gorgeous. Clayton took the lemon sorbet from Menton and served it in a lemon shell.

Caché is located in a former industrial building at the end of a cobblestone alley. It’s about a five-minute walk from the closest Metro line (near the eastern limit of the city). It is fine to arrive by Metro but you may feel more comfortable leaving by car at the end of the evening.
