If you are looking for a secluded escape, there are several hotels outside downtown St. Moritz offering a more immersive experience in nature and a family-friendly atmosphere. Giardino Mountain feels a world away – just five minutes drive from the center of St. Moritz in Champfer.
This luxurious boutique hotel offers cozy rooms and welcoming service with stunning views of Corvatsch. Champfer has a lake of its own, and while it’s perfectly normal to see women in fur coats carrying Birkin bags (or teenagers with Kelly bags) walking for exercise around the St. Moritzersee, the crowd at the Lej da Champfèr has a more sporty vibe. In fact, if you’re into cross country skiing, the groomed trails around the lake are dreamy and there is a ski shop across from the Giardino Mountain hotel so you can go from breakfast to the trails in no time.
The wellness vibe is pervasive at Giardino Mountain and everything from the decor in the lobby to the products at the spa are nature-based. The spa uses Aveda products in addition to the Giardino’s own proprietary line, and the decor of the hotel is firmly grounded in earth tones and florals, such that you feel equally relaxed in the lobby bar as on a massage table or next to the pool.
The dining at Giardino Mountain is also second to none. With Italian hospitality comes good food, and the hotel offers everything from two Michelin starred cuisine to oysters on the patio. While the fine dining restaurant, Ecco, is currently closed due to the global pandemic, the hotel still offers an amazing breakfast spread and seasonal dinner menu in its Hide + Seek restaurant. We felt especially at home when we noticed that Giardino Mountain’s house Prosecco is our friend Cinzia Canzian’s Alice.
A final small touch we really appreciated — we were gifted a bottle of olive oil from Puglia on checkout to remind us of the warmer and sunnier days ahead!
Giardino Mountain is a five-minute drive from two world renowned ski resorts — Corviglia and Corvatsch — but sets itself apart from its St. Moritz neighbors with its wellness-oriented brand of luxury.
