For the best baked goods in San Francisco, skip the over-hyped Insta-famous bakeries like Tartine and Mr. Holmes and make your way to Neighbor Bakehouse in the up-and-coming Dogpatch district. The Dogpatch is exploding with new restaurants, bars (like The Sea Star), and shops (like our favorite butcher in San Francisco), and Neighbor Bakehouse is dishing out out the flakiest croissants in San Francisco.
Baker Greg Mindel and his wife, Christine, are experts at laminated doughs, so anything laminated, from croissants to bostock, is our go-to. We love the “everything” croissant, with its cream cheese filling and all the toppings you’d find on an everything bagel, but nothing beats the pistachio and blackberry twice-baked croissant.
You can find Neighbor Bakehouse pastries at several other coffee shops around town, but for the best experience, we’d recommend going straight to the source. The line can get long on Saturday mornings, but it moves quickly and is worth the wait.
Neighbor Bakehouse, 2343 3rd Street, San Francisco
Open Wednesday through Sunday 6:30am – 2pm. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Oh man! May have to get sick by forgoing my GF lifestyle just just for a croissant from here.
