Vinoteca Centro Storico is our favorite restaurant in all of Piedmont. Alessio and Stefania own this cozy enoteca and restaurant, which is a hangout for winemakers in the center of historic Serralunga d’ Alba.
Alessio is a good friend and is known for both his incredible cured meats and a hand-picked selection of Champagne, which can be refreshing after a day of tasting Barolo. Alessio runs the floor while his wife Stefania runs the kitchen, and his mother-in-law makes all of the pasta by hand. Alessio also gets allocations from the most sought-after producers in Barolo and Barbaresco, so you know you’ll drink well.

Vinoteca Centro Storico offers a small menu written on a chalkboard, along with changing specials. Anything that you order here will be very good, but there are a few reliable classics we especially recommend. Start with a plate of mixed cured meats, and the vitello tonnato, which is a Piedmontese specialty. The ravioli with butter and sage (handmade by Stefania’s mother), and the bunet and panna cotta for dessert, are our top picks that we order every time we go. Get a few spoons and share. These are all dishes that we’ve been dreaming about since our last visit and can’t wait to go back for more!
You’ll want to call ahead to make a reservation. This place can get packed especially on the weekends. We recommend you drink what Alessio suggests and don’t give him an attitude. We’ve seen the tourists he has to deal with, and most people wouldn’t survive a day in his shoes.
