Perched at the very top of the Hôtel de Paris in Monte-Carlo, Le Grill offers a truly special dining experience complete with panoramic views of the Mediterranean and Monte-Carlo’s glittering skyline. As if the views weren’t enough, the restaurant has something that sets it apart from other Michelin-starred spots: an open kitchen with a huge grill, blending refined dining with the rustic flavors of open-fire cooking.
When the weather is good, the ceiling opens to reveal the sky, and the windows slide away, giving you an uninterrupted view of the sea. It’s hard to imagine a more spectacular setting for dinner, and it sets the perfect tone for what’s to come: simple yet elevated dishes with the unmistakable flavor of fire.
We started with the violet artichoke risotto, a dish that completely stole the show. The risotto was creamy and rich, with the subtle sweetness of the violet artichokes shining through in every bite, and it was so good our two-year old devoured it.
For the main courses, we had both the pigeon and the lamb, each wood-fired to perfection and presented hanging before being carved, which added a bit of theater to the meal. Both were good but the lamb was exceptional, with the wood fired, smoky flavor that perfectly complemented its tenderness.
But no meal at Le Grill would be complete without their signature soufflés. The soufflés here are iconic, perfectly risen, and served tableside. Watching the waitstaff gently spoon the fluffy, warm dessert onto your plate is as much a part of the experience as eating it. It’s a fabulous finale, light and airy but full of flavor, and the perfect way to end the meal.
Le Grill manages to walk a fine line between luxury and comfort. It’s Michelin-starred and the tableware is Christofle, but the focus on the grill gives it an approachability that many fine dining restaurants lack. Combine that with the breathtaking views, and you have one of Monte-Carlo’s most unforgettable dining experiences.
If you’re looking for a meal that balances refinement with the rustic charm of fire, all with a view that feels like something out of a movie, Le Grill is where you need to be.
