If you’re looking for a local farm-to-table experience in Baltimore, Woodberry kitchen is where you need to go. This was by far our favorite find during our trip to Baltimore. Owned by Amy and Spike Gjerde, Baltimore’s first James Beard Award winner, the restaurant uses as many local products as possible. Woodberry Kitchen isn’t in walking distance from Baltimore’s popular Inner Harbor, but it’s worth a quick ride, especially if you’re looking for a unique experience. Housed in a former four mill, you’ll notice the warm, cozy, local vibe from the minute you pull up.
All of Woodberry Kitchen’s food is sourced from local farms or watermen, and all spirits are sourced from the United States. They have an extensive canning and preserving program which allows them to create a truly local experience all year round.
Some of our favorite dishes included the oven-baked trout with and the wood-roasted oysters. If it’s still there, try the Tilghman Island Crab Pot. It’s a hot crab dip made with lump crab and served with toasts — the perfect comfort food. Next time we’re in Baltimore, we’ll plan to arrive early to enjoy time by the fire outside before or after dinner.
