Just up the hill from downtown St Moritz sits the Carlton Hotel. With a fantastic views of the lake, if you’re looking for art and opulence, this is the St. Moritz luxury hotel for you.
What differentiates the Carlton Hotel from the other five-star St. Moritz hotels — aside from its Russian-influenced opulence — is the fact that the Carlton is an all-suite hotel. Each guest stays in one of 60 suites, every single one of which overlooks the lake. There are no small rooms or bad views here.
Legend has it that the Carlton was designed as a summer residence for the Russian Tsar Nicholas II, and designer Carlo Rampazzi ran with the Russian history to inspire the complete renovation of the hotel. Everything from the color palette to the art on the walls to the tea service has a connection to Russia. You’ll notice on the new logo the double headed eagle, and art featuring jewelry of Russian Czars lines the walls of the hotel.
The bar at the Carlton serves some of the best cocktails in St Moritz. Be sure to try their East Indian Negroni and No Time to Die cocktails. You will find recipes for both in our upcoming Taste Edit Magazine issue on St. Moritz. Have lunch or even just truffle fries and champagne on the sun terrace overlooking the valley. It’s the perfect location to soak in the view!
If it’s cold out, reserve afternoon tea by one of the two stunning wood burning fireplaces on the Bel Etage. Sipping Champagne and tea in the big leather couches is the perfect way to spend a snowy afternoon.
Our favorite restaurant at the Carlton was Da Vittorio. This two Michelin starred restaurant is based in Bergamo, Italy. The chef and team are at The Carlton Hotel for the winter and offer everything from simple pasta to innovative dishes like olives that aren’t olives and chestnuts that aren’t chestnuts. Go for the full tasting menu or just get pasta. Either way is guaranteed to be one of the best dinners in St. Moritz.
If you are sore from skiing, or you don’t ski, soak in the heated outdoor pool or reserve a treatment in the spa. The Carlton spa uses The Organic Pharmacy products, so if you are a lover of organic skincare, you’ll want to get a facial or massage here.
