What kind of food do you think of when you think of Germany? Beer, sausage, sauerkraut, potato salad, and roasted pork. All things that Germans do well, but we also found everything from amazing Chinese food to fine dining on our recent trip.
We found so many Michelin-starred restaurants in Germany, we wanted to try one to experience a German chef’s creative interpretation of local ingredients. Entenstuben is one of several fine-dining restaurants in Nuremberg. Their service and attention to detail was impeccable, with a set menu, wine pairings, and an option for the vegetarian menu.
Our menu included arctic char, beef tartare, and duck three ways, along with a delicious local farmers cheese with figs, and clementine dessert. We even tried one of the vegetarian dishes, a delicate ravioli made with lamb’s lettuce. It was actually one of our favorite dishes! Don’t miss out on the selection of local schnapps offered at the end of the meal. We were there during December, so we tried the gingerbread schnapps, which was the perfect end to our delicious dinner.
When visiting Germany, we recommend that you seek out different kinds of foods in addition to the traditional cuisine you expect. You may find some surprises and well done traditional culinary experiences.
