If you spend any time on Instagram, you have probably seen the incredible number of photos taken in front of @thatpinkdoor. Who would have ever thought that a door could become so Insta-Famous? We couldn’t believe the number of people lined up to take a photo outside of the house.
During our trip to Palm Springs, we had the special privilege of getting to see what’s behind the famous pink door, and the only reason we are sharing this now is that the owners have done such an amazing job of caring for this incredible house, we wanted to highlight their extraordinary taste.
As Palm Springs has become a fashion blogger destination, since our visit, the owners of the house have changed their photography policy as the Instagrammers have become a nuisance. The number of people that continue to disobey the stated “no photography” policy is appalling.
Owners Shawn and Brian, who also own homes in LA, Malibu, and Miami, were gracious enough to host an exclusive party with Alaska Airlines, which was the first time the home has ever been open to anyone.
For 10 years, Sean, Brian, and Oliver, their Havanese-Maltese, have enjoyed the house as a private retreat and escape from LA. According to Sean, their favorite pastimes at the house include stocking up on food and wine at the grocery store around the corner and not leaving the house for days, enjoying time by the pool from the gorgeous cabana (which offers one of the best views of the house and an outdoor chandelier), sipping red wine in the bar, and enjoying outdoor movie nights with their 3D projector.
The couple brought the house fully furnished, but over the years have switched out certain furniture and added a few personal touches. The house has multiple hotel-grade air conditioning units, which keep it cool in the hot desert sun (and the pool is constantly heated to 95 degrees). One of their most prized additions is a vintage Clairtone, which has been retrofitted with an iPhone input.
One thing we loved about the house is how every room has a different, yet equally fabulous theme. The pink dining room was one of our favorites, but how could anyone not love the teal cabinets in the kitchen, yellow bird wallpaper in the guest room, or the front bedroom, which, once covered with “angry horses” wallpaper is now a hangout fit for a queen. And we can’t forget the mirrored bathrooms!
