If you’re looking for a refined yet casual lunch or dinner in New York City, along with a killer wine list, you need to make a reservation at Charlie Bird in Soho. We loved Pasquale Jones in Little Italy, so we thought we’d try another restaurant from the Delicious Hospitality Group, and they nailed it with Charlie Bird.
Influenced by Italian cuisine, Charlie Bird uses fresh seasonal ingredients and serves impeccable seafood, pasta, and roasted meats. Wines are available by the glass, and the restaurant will also serve a half bottle of many of the selections on the list. All the wines are served in Zalto glassware polished to perfection.
We visited for Charlie Bird’s simple prix fixe lunch, which includes a small plate followed by pasta. The menu is far from basic, with selections like oysters with cider mignonette and gnocchi rosa with crushed tomatoes, ricotta, and mint. The razor clams topped with wisps of fennel and thin slices of pickled chilies, as well as the grilled octopus on a bed of crispy potatoes, Nduja and mint were the highlights of our lunch, along with a half bottle of Giuseppe Rinaldi Dolcetto d’Alba.
Don’t miss the bottles of Romano Levi grappa on the wall. We’re told it’s just decoration, no ordering that here, but check out our visit to the distillery here.
If the weather is nice, sit outside on the patio and enjoy the people watching. This is a New York Restaurant that we’d go back to again and again.
